Buzztv box XPL3000

meh I could care less about PVR TBH. I'm more interested in the changes that are supposed to be coming to to GUI. I have PVR on global media 4k box and t1 plus, tested once to see if they worked but that's it.

Exactly, PVR was hit with IKS but with so many streaming going on now PVR is basically obsolete. Timeshift on iptv servers is what is needed

I'm interested in PVR functionality on the BuzzTV XPL3000, particularly in setting up scheduled recordings while away from the house/STB unit.
I haven't examined Timeshift enough to see if it will provide me with what I'm looking for at an alternate time. Still like the idea of a simple, reliable PVR Recording feature though.
I'm currently torn between ordering a BuzzTV XPL3000 now, or waiting for whatever may be coming next from the Dreamlink peeps, as I'd like to have the BuzzTV XPL3000 and the newest Dreamlink box at the same time....but I'm so freakin' tired of the erratic (freezing) performance of the MAG254 STB I've been using since December of 2015 that the DL T1+, the BuzzTV XPL 3000, or even an empty soup can with string sounds waaaayyyy more appealing at this time on NFPS than this annoying MAG254! Grrr!!

I hope both Buzz and DL keep and improve the PVR function in their latest offerings...either way, Ive got to get something better than what has been driving me nucking futz for the past 2 years! LoL;)

I too am looking for a new box because my dreamlink t1 just died.

However, I have some mag 254 and they are super reliable. If you're having problems you describe, this is likely a network or server issue, not a hardware issue.

What steps have you done to confirm it's the hardware that is bad?

Just got the XPL 3000, think the box works excellent so far. One issue I'm having is that on the epg, I can only go back 24 hours to watch catchup shows. I know that the server goes back further, as the Dreamlink T1 will take me back 5 days to watch shows successfully. Anyone know if this is a setting that can be changed, or if there's any method to request this be addressed in an update by the Buzz team?

@amp3d,

Thanks for ur reply / thoughts.

In truth, I don't believe its entirely the MAG254's fault, rather, a combination of things, all of which assimilate to a "moving" but semi-predictable target.
The code running on the MAG254 STB is much less resilient/forgiving/compatible with the nfps service , based on anecdotal evidence (shared experience) offered by those having extended comparative experience with both MAG254 and Dreamlink T1+ STB's. Also, those peeps reporting here on the BuzzTV xpl2000 and xpl3000 boxes seem to be having a better overall TV viewing experience than those with MAG254 STB's, which also caught my attention.

As an educated/experienced technical professional, I'm trained to generally resist coming to conclusions based on anecdotal evidence, but in this particular case, and given the reputation of certain individuals contributing to the "DL T1+ box vs the MAG STB boxes" comparison discussions on this site and on the other site, the differences, particularly the implementation of the stalker middle-ware running on the DL T1+ STB when communicating with the nfps server collective (StarTrek Borg Collective reference there, LoL) can no longer be ignored by me.

In fairness to the venerable MAG254 STB, it's not like it's junk, or refuses to work, because aside from the predictable fits of freezing it has, it's working fairly well, given the conditions it's been given to operate under (i.e., the source content/stream quality, number of hops between the MAG254 and the nfps server collective, latency, etc., etc.etc...but it is lacking compared to the firmware/stalker middleware running on the D T1+ box, I can finally say with confidence, having gone over to a friends place several times over the past 3 weeks, and had her come over to mine, so we could test her DL T1+ with my ISP / TV and vice versa, and the DL T1+ box performed noticeably better (not just picture quality either) than the MAG254 does.

I have access to 3 above-average ISP's where this particular MAG254 spends most of its time, including a pure fiber optic connection to the bldg with Gigabit Internet access on a long-haul dark fiber run, and could go into laborious technical details about packet loss, delta-t frame rejection rates, on avg, etc., etc., but it really isn't necessary, because the same irritating and predictable freezing occurs on not just this particular MAG254, but on 2 other MAG254 STB's as well, at 3 different geo-locations.

When the MAG254 works, it works fairly well, which is about roughly 70% of the time. (which means it should only drive me nucking futz about 30% of the time, but ohhh noooo...it drives me nucking futz nearly every single time it spazzez out! LoL)

Based on my own observations over the past 3 weeks, the DL T1+ STB works well about 95% of the time. I like those odds better.:D

The only reason I haven't bought a DL T1+ STB yet is because I'm hoping the manufacturer will release their newer more capable STB soon...but I'm probably going to buy the BuzzTV xpl3000 STB pretty soon, while the wait continues for the release of the logical successor to the DL T1+ STB, even if it's just a mythical Unicorn at this time.

I've decided I want both brands of newer STB's (Dreamlink T1+ successor and the BuzzTV xpl3000), that way I can more thoroughly evaluate nfps under a variety of conditions, and hopefully with a more consistently favorable outcome.

Edit: I also want the newer BuzzTV xpl3000 for its likely/rumored support for scheduled recording capabilities! Yaaayyy!!;)

Actually it does matter, he stated it and I want to know wether he heard it from the company or elsewhere. I'm just curious, don't want to get my hopes up for nothing.

I also knew the update for these units were coming today, how I know, it doesn't matter. What matters is loading the update on the box when it's available. Replace your curiosity with anxiety to load that update and enjoy your unit.

Did anyone get an update for the xpl3000 today or yesterday ?? I have not..........if I try to manually update ..tells me it can't connect to the server (buzz server) ...........Is this update suppose to be a firmware update or the Buzztv2 app update.................??
