Buzztv box XPL3000

So, I got an XPL3000 to test out and while yes, it can record any stream there are some major limitations.

1) There is no skip forward / skip back functionality so you can't "instant replay" something you saw.
2) If you try to create a scheduled timer recording, you have to leave the "Live TV" app running on the box 24/7 because if you exit it, and go to the main menu, the recording won't start. This is a huge waste of bandwidth and just plain dumb.

I've emailed the developer asking if they can implement the first two features, and fix the scheduled recording problem.

1. Are you refering to a recording for fast for fast forwarding or rewind? recordings to my knowledge can do this..if your talking about live tv that would be called timeshift and not all servers support it.
2. Yes this makes total sense given that really any app must be on in order for it to fully function.. it would be hard to implement this feature as it would suggest that the Buzztv app would always need to be running in the background in order for it to know what type and when you wanted to record..so enfact your statment is ass backwards, it would be a hugh waste of bandwidth and dumb to have it running in the background always...anyways just my 2 cents friends but hey maybe your right...but also maybe not

I'm referring to skip back and skip forward live tv, similar to what you do on a bell pvr. The back button zips back 15 seconds and the forward button zips forward 30 seconds. You can do this during live tv to do an "instant replay". The content doesnt necessarily need to already be recorded, as the pvr keeps a buffer of the currently tuned in stream regardless of whether or not you have started recording it manually.

As for the the scheduled timer recordings, at a minimum they should make it so that IF the TV app has to remain open so that the scheduled recordings work, that it isnt "tuned" into a channel, streaming content for no reason if no one is watching it. That way it could still be open in the background and not consuming bandwidth by having a stream "open".

Yes yoru talking about time shift, this is a feature already included in the buzztv app, it is just that not every service has it active, it is not quite what i think you are expecting but you might be hoping for a little to much for a grey market service/box.

This could be done but would liekly require a server end update not a software end, buzztv app only facilities the portal access for the iptv your connecting what you are suggesting is that buzztv creates its own channel within the server to sit on that is black in order for it to then switch to the scheduled recording..I don't see this happening but hey anything is possible in this game

The skipping back/forward, pausing live TV etc. is part of time shifting and is not supported (I wish it were) but recording seems to work except porn.....you cannot record the porn channels. I understand not being able to record the prerecorded porn channels but the three live porn channels should be able to be recorded.

As for the timer recording I too have mentioned the issue of the apps inability to fire up the box and start a timer record. Leaving the app open so the timer record will work is a colossal waste of bandwidth but I seem to be in the minority on this subject as no one else seems to care.

I believe I have a solution to this but it would require an update by the Buzz people to their BuzzTV app. It's a solution I think would be an easy solution to implement.

As we know, the app is limited on it's capability to start the timer record unless it's up and running....I get that. However to leave the app up and running it is always on a channel burning bandwidth. If Buzz programmed in a "dead" channel in the app, let's just say "channel 0 (zero)" this could solve this issue. No matter what server one subscribes to, when you launch live TV (BuzzTV app) the channel list from the server would load, but at the top of the list would be channel 0. This channel would be a dead channel that pointed to nothing. The app wouldn't even try to search for a stream, it would just sit there kind of like free parking in Monopoly. This way the app is up and running but not burning any bandwidth. If you set a timer to record at 14:00 on channel 139, then turn to channel 0 and leave for work, when 14:00 comes the app switches to channel 139 and records then when the timer is done the app changes back to the previous channel it was on prior to the timer, in this case channel 0. The only bandwidth used would be what was used during the timer. No needless use on bandwidth when no one is there watching it. You come home from work and watch your show and life is good.

I truly believe this would be an easy implementation to the BuzzTV app. Channel 0 would not be server based but Buzz based so nothing would be needed from the server.

Not a bad idea really..however not sure if it can be done..buzztv has no control over the channel lists they only supply the GUI (Epg interface,VOD interface) the server your connecting to does the rest.. it would be tricky to implement

I m having issues currently recording on xpl 3000. After i click record after few seconds recording hangs and i get a stream not found error every time. The box is on latest December firmware update. Any ideas??

Been a couple weeks with the buzz and iptv in general. Loving the xpl3000 so far. I have a couple different subs I've been trying out and with the VOD for each the first time I play a movie it's displayed in 16:9 and I have to change the setting manually to auto. Then any movie i play is automatically formatted to fit the the screen. When I power off/standby the buzz and go back to VOD, the display setting is back to 16:9. Kind of a nuisance to fix every time.

Is there a way to change the settings in the buzz to set the display to auto?

I noticed this as well, tack it onto the wish list for the next update

Just played around on the buzz and I can do the pause, skip forward and backward and works with both subs I use. The only thing is that it goes back and forth in 1 minute increments. I can tell the time as I'm watching CP24.

Any update on scheduling recordings into USB flash card? I got a Buzztv and trying to schedule it into usb flash drive. Does it work? Any tips appreciated.

Put the NTSF formattedflash drive into usb drive and Buzztv recognized it. Scheduled 3 recordings last night for programs this morning.

Saw a tick mark next to the recordings when I switched now. But unable to play any of them. Why did the recording not happen?

I scheduled recording from EPG and red button.

Update:

I contacted buzztv support and was told to keep the "live tv" app on and not to go into home or standby mode. If i keep the livetv on for say 8 hours/night, what will be the apprpox data consumption? I have a 1TB monthly cap and have few other devices.

You cannot record something and the device is in an offline state. TV is viewed within the app so the app has to engaged or in an online state.

If you have a 1TB cap it makes no sense doing recording
s in my opinion. Best to install an app where you can view the recorded stuff like kodi.

How do we contact the development team to fix the scheduled recording with lipvetvapp in standby mode? If people like us give this feedback, will they think about in future update?

Well you did that already and was given the answer to your query. Doing a recording is like watching TV, so to watch TV or record, the app has to be open or engaged.

you just did and they told you what to do

Got an update from BuzzTV support last night that many customers have requested for recording to happen without streaming. They are working to have the 'livetv" app on but without streaming so that recording can happen. ETA is 4-6 weeks.
