I beg to differ.Dwa 160 wireless manager is not compatible with windows 8, so there's no way of saving your wireless information on to it. So I would not recommend this unit if running Windows 7 or above.
I have performed a lot of tests and lan is best. I use a alpha r36 router with USB antenna to boost range. You can connect into lan port
too. It uses rtl8187l usb any transceiver with this chip set will work up to 15 ft. do not use a extension cable. get adapter with wire 15 ft. I use outdoor antennas and indoor. I was just in a RV park and the above worked really good. I have a vertical antenna mounted on top of trailer connected to adapter inside. Keep coax short if you go this way. I have 2 r36 routers. One is for home use.
If it helps anyone, I bought a cheap generic dual band USB wifi adapter from Ebay and it's working fine with my Mag 254 box. The product description said it used the Ralink RT5572N chipset and supported Linux, so I expect any USB wifi adapters which use that chipset will work fine.
I personally am using a Dlink DWA 160 for over a year and works great. It has both 2.4 and 5.0 GHZ. Why is it better? Most Electronics in the house use 2.4 GHZ which may cause interference with the reception of the router so its better to run on 5.0 where it would be clear of any disconnects or interferences. Your router must support both 2.4 and 5.0 GHZ.
