Yes, exactly. Let's say your connection has a throughput of X. If X is enough to prevent buffering, you should see that (no buffering) when you are wired. If, however, X is not enough to prevent buffering, you should see that when you're wired, and in that situation, the amplifier won't be of help. It won't increase throughput above X.
