i remember my cat could torrent 2 files downloading at high speed using the transmission server and client on the old raspberry pi 1 to a usb hdd and still play HD video, gui was laggy yeah but for a 1st gen rpi running both server and client, tons of connections because of this and 10-20MByte download to a usb device, tons of interrupts used (yeah the old rpi doesn't even do 'real' multitasking). i do not think this will be a problem at all for nowadays even slower devices.watching & recording a program within the kodi will eat too many system resources
so if you run it on a non-powerful machine (i.e. android box / r-pi with less RAM), it will result with too many dropped-frames (a/v unsync & video lagging/stuttering issue)
just my 2 cents
my experience transferring several files using the 1st gen fire tv while navigating the gui or watching movies/tv is good and not laggy before you really push it with lots of files at once.
