if you got your route no. you are good to go (route=donation=subscription) if you lost the number you are screwed unless a mac address was linked and you at least have that.
search route (route checker) is the same as link a mac, it is where you enter your donation (route) to "login" and be able to change mac address, see how many days are left etc. search mac (mac checker) is to check if a mac address is already in use.
but who gave you the route no. (you say he gave me) sounds like you bought from a reseller?
