Avov TvOnline 4
Initial thoughts
Really loved the sleek design when seeing it and also satisfying seeing it in person. The remote is smaller, new power brick and a nice flat HDMI cable.
Operation
Well this is coming from a Avov TvOnline+. The first thing I was greeted with when turning on my system was the whirring noises from the power brick (Oh great I was one of the until few that got the noisy brick) when whirring louder every time to use the remote to do anything lol. It boots with a sound (didn’t seem as loud I saw others saying) not really a big deal to me as I rarely power the device all the way off and to an initial setup. After the initial setup it doesn’t really say what to do next or anything so I hit exit and the screen went black and stayed black. I had to use the new power button behind the device to reboot it. After the reboot I got to the new main screen that doesn’t have live TV for some reason but a play button needs to be clicked before going to live TV but this has the live tv and VOD stuff. Also what might be confusing for new users is the two mac addresses, one in the play screen and one in the server setup, watch for that. Overall setup is still easy and very fast!
IPTV Traits
Channels change faster which is nice, picture quality is nice and clean for all channels that I checked, VOD worked great so that’s good. What I was really disappointed with was the EPG. It’s the same as all the other AVOV units. The main reason I bought this device for the Grided EPG and PVR none of which are here. I know they said that these will come in the future but I’m sure 100% of the people that bough this unit expected this out of the box. I bragged to my friends about this just to have them see it was just like my old unit, the embarrassment. The EPG isn’t that bad but it doesn’t update if you’ve been watching for a while, you have to exit and go back into the live tv for the times to be updated. The remote seems like a downgrade as well its smaller and feels cheaper. It lacks a lot of the button that the old one has and it doesn’t even have the media buttons like the old one. I thought this was the box that has PVR so I would expect those buttons to stay there. Also I have to be really pointing at the device for it to shift, can’t have a little 30-degree angle action going on. Oh yeah and the recall button still doesn’t work, it just shows you channels you been on but you can’t even select them, like WTF.
My Pros
• UI is fast and fluent
• Built quality is good (Minus the power brick)
• Picture quality is great
• Setup is very easy and fast
• Has kodi there for all kodi fans and it runs pretty good.
My Cons
• EPG (Their implementation is good but not what I want) is a very big letdown for me honestly was not what I was expecting and what was advertised.
• Cheapy remote feeling and lack of buttons (Older TvOnline+ remote works with it)
• No PVR as advertised
• Recall button does nothing
• Noisy power brick (This won’t be for everyone I just was in the unlucky batch and it has quieted down quite a bit over night)
• Can’t turn off navigation and volume sounds
• Guide button doesn't do anything.
Conclusion
Ok with all that being said, I never do these kinds of writes but I wanted to give my honest opinion of this box to me for now it’s just ok, if you have one of the older ones I don’t see any need for you to upgrade. If it’s your first but then yeah dive right in for it but don’t have your hopes up for the EPG seen in the promo or PVR working just yet. Like I said earlier in my review the main reason I waited to buy this device was for a real full EPG like the FTA receivers and thats just not here yet and might be a while before we ever see it. I think I’m actually going to put this up for sale and purchase the T1 like initially planned on doing. Hope this review helps someone.
