For always!
Ok so a true 1270x720 720p stream only need 4 Mbit to 6 Mbit tops to stream.

All channels here are mostly 640x360 720x576 or 1024x576 every single channel can run around 2 Mbit if that to stream.

5 to 10Mbit is all anyone needs to stream anything online.

Hope that clears this up for a lot of you.

The image size is only part of it as the bigger the image the more data you need to fill that image. You can have a lower resolution 1080p that will work over a 5 Mbit or you can have a high res 1080p that will not work. For example I have a movie that is encoded 1080p at 20 Mbit. This will not go down a 5 Mbit pipe without trans coding to a lower resolution that will fit on a 5 Mbit pipe.

Im talkin strictly ipvt min here is less then 5 Mbit.

Yes there are higher bit rates for say 1080p but thats not what I'm trying to clear up for people.

Just trying to let people know what they truly need for this servie and it is very little bandwidth.

just few examples

dvd is 9.8 Mbit/sec max.
bluray is 40Mbit/sec max.
broadcast sd television is/was around 3.5Mbit sec in mpeg2 transfer stream.
broadcast hdtv is between 8-15 Mbit/sec in mpeg 4 h264.
youtube 480p videos is 1Mbit/sec, 720p videos is 2.5Mbit/sec, and 1080p is 4.5Mbit/sec. all in mpeg4 h264.

but yeah we get around 1-3Mbit so 5Mbit should be enough for this service I agree with that.

saying "5 to 10Mbit is all anyone needs to stream anything online." does not quite hold water though. :)
it is in most cases, but I have also streamed ¨20gb rips with up to 16Mbit/secs and then 5Mbit certainly won't cut it..
