when i click on the pay button a couple of screens later it says what i pasted in my first email. the payment page does not work.

Did you try both gateways?

There appears to be some serious issues regarding payments, donations and certificates. I suspect this might have something to do with payments not being accepted until the issues get worked out. It might be a good idea to wait until the bugs have been worked out as well.
