Use the Xbox App Game DVR to capture anything in Windows 10

Use the Xbox App Game DVR to capture anything in Windows 10

In game video capture has been around in Xbox for a while, allowing gamers to share their exploits, and with Windows 10 and the Xbox App, that ability has come to the PC as well. You can capture, save, and share video or still screenshots from your PC, all just by using the Xbox App, or clicking the Win+G keys on your keyboard to start recording.

In a recent blog post, Microsoft described the Xbox App's game capture features:

With Game DVR, you can capture your best moves for any game that you’re playing (hear that Solitaire fans?!) quickly, easily and without leaving your game, simply by pressing the Windows and G keys. You can then use the Xbox app – where all your gaming activities come together – to edit and share your recorded clips with your friends. Your Game DVR clips can be saved to a folder on your PC, from which you can share your recorded clips to your social channels like Facebook and YouTube.

But the video capture is capable of quite a bit more than that, according to Engadget. They recently noticed that you can use the video and screen capture features for all kinds of apps, not just games. Once you open the Game DVR feature, and check off the "yes this is a game" box, you can record just about anything

Hit record (or Win+Alt+R), and it will automatically start capturing video from the program you’ve got open, rather than the entire screen. It’s a feature aimed at gamers (duh) who want to share in-game clips, but it works equally well for sending your grandma a how-to video on using Google.

What hardware do I need to record Xbox game clips on my PC?

Your PC needs to have one of these video cards:
AMD: AMD Radeon HD 7000 series, HD 7000M series, HD 8000 series, HD 8000M series, R9 series, and R7 series.
NVIDIA: GeForce 600 series or later, GeForce 800M series or later, Quadro Kxxx series or later.
Intel: Intel HD graphics 4000 or later, Intel Iris Graphics 5100 or later.
To check which kind of video card you have, go to the search box on the taskbar and search for “Device Manager.” In Device Manager, expand Display adapters.
You always have the option to take a screenshot of your game, even if you don’t have one of these video cards.

Unfortunately, as this is not much of a gaming machine, we weren't able to give video recording a try, but screen capture works great, and saves locally into Users>{user}>Videos>Captures.

If you're set up for it, Game DVR looks to be a great feature that just may turn out to be quite a bit more useful than originally intended.

hey Laser, you hear of any good golf simulation w/Xbox One ?
I have trialed the two comic type golf versions with xbox ONE, but looking for them to release a serious version, like the Tiger Woods or even that old Jack Nicholas was great.
If you hear of any, I'll be watching for it.
Thnx Laser :)
here is one:

EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour truly delivers Golf Without Limits, opening up the experience like never before. Gorgeous real-world courses and epic fantasy tracks provide players with not only the most realistic representations of their favorite locales, but the opportunity to explore brand-new locations. Full course loading offers limitless options when attacking the green and zero wait times when moving from one hole to the next. Experience the next generation of golf and play where you want, when you want, how you want.
Release Date: June 2015

got it yesterday. It's pretty sweet.
The golf swing has a few options that can be used. The 'Tour' swing is been the one I been using so far and getting used to it, works pretty good and I am beginning to get good with it.
Rory doesn't look too pleased for most part thou, and seems especially when I been putting my ball in the water every chance I been getting
In game play is fast as you want it. You can basically click the A button and get right back to your shot, works good (plus I can miss Rory slamming his club into the dirt , (them damn Bogeys, don't cha know) :)
Just coming up to hole #17 @ Sawdgrass which is supposed to be hardest hole in golf, and water all around... oh my !!!

So what's your score? LOL

+ 9 on the 16th hole.
Eagle shot from the rough @ 28 yards out :)

added edit:
I missed that Eagle but gots my first Birdie !!
Rory is pleased :)
Onto the 17th...
It's difficult playing golf and watching nascar at same time, but Rory is a patient guy :)

So what's your score? the courses are supposed to be amazing? ;)

teeing up on the 18th now
with a Par on the 17th ... @ +8 now.
That 17th was not so bad, missed birdie by inches.
This is first round I played on the game. Went thru a tutorial and that helped but this first round is what gets you used to game play and works well :)
I'll let you know about the other courses and tournaments , etc.. ). This Sawdgrass is pretty good. There are crocodiles on one of the earlier holes
Game play is pretty nice. I have tried Tiger Woods one, the PGA one, and some others, even the old Sega jack Nicholas one.
So I had an idea how they work and look and i do really like this Rory version :)

Had some time to play this Golf xBox ONE game some more. I can finish 18 holes now most times at even Par or just under Par.. even had some great eagle chances with birdies coming regular now . I think Rory is pleased with me these days :)
I read reviews on this game and they mostly aren't that great. Mostly the gripe is that it took so long for the release and it's not perfect or even the best golf game.
It doesn't have good options like a Clubhouse or good options character looks and some other things. The commentary isn't always true to the shot you just made. Kinda repeats itself at times too.
Playing to make a career and stats for your player is not the greatest and you do that thru Pro Career and EA Sports server. Not best round setups with that either. You play only 3 or 4 holes per round and each round would be at different course. With cuts after round 3, I think.
There is supposed to be an option to play full 18 holes per round but I can't find it :(

You have Stroke or Match play that can be played off-line and that as it turns out is best game play simulation of the whole package.
You can play with up to 3 other friends, but not-online. No working option for that.

In Stroke Play (off-line) there are courses to choose from that include ..
TPC Sawgrass, FL
Parcel Storm, South China sea
Coyote Falls, Grand Canyon
Wolf Creek, MV
Royal Troon, Scotland
TPC Boston, MA
BayHill, FL
Whistling Straits, Wl
St. Andrews, Scotland -- my best finish @ 4 under Par
Chambers Bay, WA
Wetlands, FL
Lighthouse Pointe, ME

Not all courses are simulations of real actual courses, like the Grand Canyon course (need i say more about that course more) or the Parcel Storm course, which is set in an active military war games zone. Kinda cool. There's one tee-box shot that you get interrupted, cause a destroyer naval boat is beaching itself while under attack !!

So although there are many areas to improve on with the game, I do like the actual game play itself and the course scenes are very cool with good graphics for most part.
Game Play simulation is it's best feature, which to me is also the most important.
One thing missing in game play is the heads-up onscreen mini map of the hole being played. You can toggle to it and get full screen of the hole, but you can't have a heads up view of it. At tee-box on each hole, the video intro does show the hole design (sorta) and gives hints on how to play it, so pay attention to that and then not so much need to toggle to full mini map so often.

Xbox One's Forza 6 Goes Gold, All 460 Cars Revealed, Demo Coming Soon

It's a big day for news about upcoming Xbox One racing game Forza Motorsport 6.

Microsoft has announced that the game has gone gold, meaning development on the project has finished. The racer launches on September 15, but people who buy the $100 Ultimate Edition can play September 10.

Everyone will be able to play earlier than that, however, as Microsoft will release a free Forza 6 demo for Xbox One on September 1. The demo includes a "selection" of the game's 460 total cars, though a specific lineup of vehicles for the demo was not announced. The demo also includes night racing and wet weather, and runs at 1080p/60fps, just like the full game.

In addition, everyone who plays the Forza 6 demo will receive an extra free car in the form of the Ford GT for the full game. Microsoft will announce more details about the Forza 6 demo in the coming week.

Finally, Microsoft has announced 10 more cars for Forza 6. With these 10 cars, Microsoft has completed its car reveals--you can see all 460 cars (the biggest launch-day lineup in franchise history), along with the full lineup of tracks
