This is my first time setting everything up it all works as it should. Ive installed the epg updater as well at the stalker client provided by epg ninja. My only issue is when i open my guide while in the process of watching a channel it is extremely slow to load. Some times taking 2-3 minutes and in the meantime causing kodi to freeze. Any help on resolving this issue would be much appreciated.

sounds like your device does not have enough ram or has a really slow processor..
to use pvr.stalker, with the EPG, it is recommended to have at least a dual core machine with 1 gig of ram at the very minimum.. for best performance you should use something that is quad core with 2gb of ram..

with a device of the specs above, it should only take 2-5 seconds to bring up the full EPG... using the channel list is much faster, pretty much instant.. it still shows you whats on each channel.

if your device is not above the sepcs i mentioned, you should not use the full EPG view at all.. OR disable/delete all channels you do not watch, that will make the list load faster

make a group with your favorite channels if you only speak English a lot can be left out, that is what I do and it speeds the epg up significantly. of cause based on how many channels you filter out and you can still search all the channels if necessary (if you filter out some sports or news or movies they also have groups though) its normal that kodi freezes for a moment but 2-3 mins is a very long time on my box it takes around 15 secs for all channels and 3 secs for my group. I would say its more like a processor issue if the epg loads in the end without problems. there are a lot of difference in quad core processors mine is one too, but a dual core processor can actually be faster in some cases. quad core has started to become somewhat of a buzz word also in the pc world. I have a 1 core intel laptop that only has a little higher clock than a quad core amd laptop I also own and its actually faster both running win 10, the single core came with xp or win 7 I dont quite remember but the quad core came with win 8..

bump. I should probably say regarding the above it should still not take 2-3 mins at most 30 secs or maybe 1 which is high for any quad core processor. it could be other apps starting up at boot and running in the background too, maybe also ram as psycon suggests some devices use half for the gpu (gfx/video) try check how much you have left in kodi's systeminfo and how high the cpu usage is, you should be able to see each core.
