London Bridge, Lake Havasu, Arizona

In 1962, this famous bridge could not handle the increasing flow of traffic across the Thames River in London and much like the nursery rhyme, it began falling down. After Lake Havasu, Arizona, founder Robert McCulloch purchased the bridge from the British government for $2.46 million, it was dismantled one stone at a time and sent to Lake Havasu where it was reconstructed and re-dedicated in 1971. Today, the bridge crosses the one-mile Bridgewater Channel that was dredged to connect Lake Havasu with Thompson Bay. Although it is one of the more popular tourist attractions in the Southwest, it still seems unusually out of place.

At $350 Million, Beverly Hillbillies Mansion Is Most Expensive in U.S.

It's unclear, though, given the price of oil, whether Jed Clampett could afford it today.

"The Ballad of Jed Clampett" was the theme song for The Beverly Hillbillies TV show and movie, providing the back story for the series. The song was written and composed by Paul Henning, and sung by Jerry Scoggins, who was accompanied by bluegrass musicians Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. When the theme was released as a single, Flatt sang lead vocals instead.

The story of Jed Clampett is, by now, a legend. A poor mountaineer, he could barely feed his family of four, but one day, while he was out hunting for food, he fired his rifle into the swamp behind his shack—and struck oil. The sale of the resource-rich land, in 1962, would eventually net him between $25 million and $100 million, and he did what anyone with sudden riches would do: He packed up his truck and moved his clan to Beverly Hills, where their adventures would be the subject of nine seasons of the Beverly Hillbillies.

Now the Bel Air estate featured in the (fictional) show’s opening credits is up for sale—and as befits a wealthy, cultured oilman like Jed Clampett, it’s the most expensive listing in the country at $350 million.

Congrads Pointy !! :)

"London Bridge Is Falling Down" (also known as "My Fair Lady" or "London Bridge") is a traditional English nursery rhyme and singing game, which is found in different versions all over the world. It deals with the depredations of London Bridge and attempts, realistic or fanciful, to repair it.

My wife and I went to see this Bridge on the way to Casa Grande AZ
The moment i saw it I was hoping it could be our next raffle
I did a bunch of google searches and come up empty handed About the only time i found anything was when i put in Lake Havasu or London bridge

American soft rock band Bread recorded a song called "London Bridge" on their first album, Bread, in 1969, when lead singer David Gates learned that London Bridge was sold and to be relocated in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. His thought at the time, according to the liner notes on Bread's album Retrospective, was, "is nothing sacred anymore?"[12]

The live country-western album Viva Terlingua, by Jerry Jeff Walker, includes an amusing song written by Gary P. Nunn entitled "London Homesick Blues." It is the lament of a Texan trapped in London and quite out of his element. A line in the song is "and even London Bridge has fallen down and moved to Arizona".

In the 1970 song "P.F. Sloan"[13] from the album Words and Music by American singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb,[14][better source needed] he refers to the relocation of London Bridge in the lines "The London Bridge was finally found, they moved it to another town, and now all the people gather 'round to watch the bridge fall down, but I don't think it will no more."

London Bridge plays a part in the 1993 movie Falling Down, starring Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall. The relocation of the bridge is mentioned and the lyrics and music of "London Bridge Is Falling Down" are heard in the movie.

In the 1985 TV movie "Terror at London Bridge" (aka Bridge Across Time), Starring "David Hasselhoff". Jack the Ripper is revived as the last original stone of the relocated London Bridge is laid. [15]
