Up until yesterday, whilst downloading an illegal copy of any TV show. movie etc was clearly defined as illegal, there was a grey area with regards to streaming because unlike a downloaded copy, which was stored on your machine of choice, a stream was only there temporarily and so many users have been able to stream the latest content without fear of prosecution because it was essentially exempt from the right of reproduction.

But now the EU courts have ruled that the temporary reproduction of a copyright-protected work, obtained without the consent of the copyright holder, is NOT exempt from the "right of reproduction".

This will of course affect other methods of streaming such as thru a browser, but Kodi of course is the main focus at the moment.

The ruling again also covers the sale of devices that are preloaded with addons to access illegal content, so the ruling has a wider aspect too.
