my 254 lost its audio. I swapped the hdmi cords with a working device and still no sound. I looked and i am set to hdmi audio=pcm. I double checked both portals and both tv and video club. verified the mute button is not on. when i noticed i had lost my sound i reset and as it was re booting it informed me there was an update, which i did hoping it may also resolve the sound issue, however it did not. I also tried changing setting from stereo to mono with no success getting back any sound. am i missing something? does anyone have any ideas or suggestions before i look to my warranty?

double checked and its set to hdmi also. still no sound. thanks for the share. it was worth a try. he is talking to a guy that thought the android robot came off the cartoon minions, my wife BOTH updated and laughed at me. i need someone to run the camera when I rearrange my blind mother in laws apartment. he sounds like the perfect guy for the job. lol

Is volume set to 100?

yes it is. i believe it may be a terminal hardware issue. i popped a new 254 out of the box and swapped out the same leads. great sound. I use a smart power strip on my media center and it worked when i went to bed the night before but not when it powered up. i did a reset, firmware update, verified cables by swapping out hardware, plus all of you guys great suggestions....anyone else thinking soaking it in salt water over night is the only logical next step? lol any more suggestions m8s? Thanks again.

Soaking in hot Epsom Salts is good for the body, may be the HDMI port has gone bad, can you try the 1x3 using the sound cables? not sure if you have to change settings, send back for exchange if all else fails.

It is now working again and I am going to post this final data for analysis. i used the 3 x 1 as you suggested. Yes you do have to make some changes. In that regard, after the info load screen you get a message pop up that says your output settings are a mismatch. You can NOT access anything and have to use hdmi to make the video and audio adjustments to the settings. After making these settings changes I checked after rebooting and still had NO sound. on the 3x1 I now had sound. i went back into the setting of the inner portal and adjusted my video resolution and it required a reboot after which i had the output mismatch error again. I went back to the hdmi cable and set hdmi event reaction to ignore and rebooted again. now I have HDMI sound. I do not understand what happened but i am back to if its not broken any more quit messing with it stage and probably should take that for now.

please feel free to analize this final data and add your comments. my initial thought is that it is an intermittent problem with the HDMI port or circuit that will likely reappear and likely get worse with time. the 3 x 1 sound was not affected by this problem and is a viable solution if warranty replacement is not an option.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I've lost audio a few times with the MAG254, but I found that switching among channels eventually brought it back. It seemed to me that the cheap HDMI switch I'm using is probably the culprit.

I think you hit on the root of the problem and the problem with a solution. they are cheap. i spent 75 usd including the shipping. because it was cheap i made a choice to forego anything like a square trade warranty. because its cheap 2 more shipping charges to repair or replace it is not really practical. and for 75usd the ukrainian who built it has to make a few coins. All that said. cheap is why I bought this one. you get what you pay for. I would say, Stay the course.

I was actually blaming the $15 HDMI switch I bought -- not the MAG254.

I found that sometimes I lost sound from the MAG254 when selecting among HDMI inputs with the switch. Like I said, changing channels a few times on the MAG254 eventually brought the audio back.
